"Drumming Song" was the fourth single off Lungs, the first Florence and the Machine album, issued by Island in September 2009. Florence Welch wrote it with James Ellis Ford and Crispin Hunt, and Ford produced it and piled on the drums, bass, organ and extra piano himself. Isabella Summers plays piano, Tom Moth's harp glints through, and a string section of Ian Burdge on cello, Sally Herbert and Everton Nelson on violin and Bruce White on viola swells underneath, while Victoria Akintola and Ladonna Harley-Peters back Welch's voice.
It stalled at #54 on the UK singles chart, but BBC Radio 1 A-listed it, its video earned a Q Awards nomination, and it has become a fan favorite at the band's shows. The B-side was a demo of "Falling".
