“Stolen Car” by Beth Orton

"Stolen Car" was the first single from Central Reservation, the third album by English singer-songwriter Beth Orton, and when it came out on Heavenly in 1999 it made number 34 on the UK singles chart. Orton wrote it with three of the players on the track, guitarist Ted Barnes, drummer Will Blanchard and keyboard man Sean Read, and Victor van Vugt produced it, with John Wood recording and Mark "Spike" Stent on the mix.

Ben Harper, one of the outside names Orton brought in for Central Reservation, turns up on electric guitar, next to Orton and Barnes on guitars, Henry Olsen on bass and Lascelles Gordon on percussion. The album went on to earn her a second Mercury Music Prize nomination and the Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist in 2000.
