"Breakout" comes from Fish Out of Water, the fourth album by Australian bluesman Ash Grunwald, released in August 2008. Grunwald wrote it top to bottom, sings it and plays the guitars, and he co-produced it with Count Bounce, who also recorded it; Tony Espie mixed.
The song brought home some silverware: at the 2010 APRA Awards it was named Blues & Roots Work of the Year. The album around it was a step up as well, the first Grunwald record to make the ARIA top 50, peaking at 43, and it picked up an ARIA nomination for Best Blues and Roots Album in 2009.
