Fish Out of Water, the fourth studio album from Australian bluesman Ash Grunwald, arrived in August 2008 and became his first record to crack the ARIA top 50, peaking at number 43. It's blues that isn't afraid of a bit of modern machinery. The title track came out of a songwriting day Mushroom put on at Michael Gudinski's house in Victoria's Macedon Ranges, where Grunwald got paired with Pip Norman of the hip-hop outfit TZU: Norman knocked up a beat on his laptop, Grunwald jammed guitar over the top, and inside a day they had an uplifting slab of blues gospel.

"Breakout" was the song that brought home the silverware, named Blues & Roots Work of the Year at the 2010 APRA Awards, and the album itself picked up a nomination for Best Blues and Roots Album at the 2009 ARIA Music Awards.
