Up All Night, the fourth album from Australian folk band the Waifs, came out in January 2003 on Jarrah, the independent label they had set up the year before with John Butler and their manager Phil Stevens. Sisters Vikki Thorn and Donna Simpson trade lead vocals and acoustic guitars, Thorn blowing harmonica, with Josh Cunningham adding guitar and harmonies.

It's warm, unhurried roots music, all road-worn harmonies and front-porch strum, and "London Still", "Lighthouse" and "Fisherman's Daughter" are the songs that stuck on the countdowns. Critics liked it more than anything they'd done before, it entered the ARIA chart at No. 3, and within 12 months it had shipped more than 140,000 copies. At the 2003 ARIA Awards it took Best Independent Release and Best Blues and Roots Album, while Chris Thompson won Engineer and Producer of the Year for his work on it: an overnight success more than a decade in the making.
