Sun Dirt Water, the Waifs' fifth studio album, came out on 1 September 2007 on Jarrah Records, the independent label the band had set up in 2002 with John Butler and their manager Phil Stevens. The Australian folk rockers were founded in 1992 by sisters Vikki Thorn and Donna Simpson, who share the lead vocals and acoustic guitars, with Thorn blowing harmonica, alongside guitarist Josh Cunningham, and their three-way chemistry is all over this one: warm harmonies and dusty, easygoing strumming.
The title track became one of their three top 50 singles. The album debuted at number two on the ARIA albums chart and was certified platinum in 2010 for shipping 70,000 copies, putting it alongside Up All Night as one of the band's top-five albums.
