Oracle, Kittie's second album, came out on Artemis Records on November 12, 2001, and it bares a lot more teeth than the nu metal of their debut, Spit. The London, Ontario band made it as a three-piece after co-founding guitarist and singer Fallon Bowman left, with Morgan Lander on guitar and vocals, her sister Mercedes Lander on drums and Talena Atfield on bass, cutting it with producer Garth Richardson at EMAC Recording Studios in the summer of 2001.

It's angrier and more extreme all round: death metal growls, thrash-speed riffs and groove-metal heft, with "What I Always Wanted" and "Run Like Hell" leading the charge. Critics were split, though they heard the growth, and later reviews have been kinder. It sold 33,000 copies in its first week in the US and 220,000 there by 2004, and the band toured it hard from August 2001 to February 2003. Atfield left four months after it came out, making this her only Kittie album.
