Funeral for Yesterday, the fourth studio album from London, Ontario's Kittie, arrived on February 20, 2007, on X of Infamy, the label the band set up for itself after walking away from Artemis. Jack Ponti produced it at RetroMedia Sound Studios in Red Bank, New Jersey, in July and August 2006, with Morgan Lander on guitar and lead vocals, Mercedes Lander on drums, new guitarist Tara McLeod in for the first time and bassist Trish Doan making her only Kittie album.

The record is loosely built around the band's own death and rebirth after a rough stretch, and it sounds like it: the riffs still bite, but the choruses open up and Morgan Lander's vocals lean on clean singing far more than before. Critics mostly warmed to the new chemistry, even if the clean vocals split opinion, and the title track became the band's biggest radio hit yet. Kittie then spent the better part of two years on the road across North America, South America and Europe.
