Mighty High, Gov't Mule's eighth studio album, came out on ATO Records on October 16, 2007, and it's the jam-band heavyweights taking a long, slow detour into reggae. Warren Haynes, who founded the band in 1994 with drummer Matt Abts and bassist Allen Woody while he and Woody were both in the Allman Brothers Band, reworks Mule originals and favourite covers as reggae and dub, with Danny Louis and Andy Hess in the lineup and Michael Franti, Toots Hibbert and Willi Williams dropping by.

Most of it was cut in the studio, but a few tracks are live recordings from the Beacon Theatre, Bonnaroo and Mountain Jam, remixed dub-style until the Southern rock grind melts into echo and bass. "I'm a Ram" rolls like a slow boat. Sandwiched between High & Mighty and By a Thread, it's a laid-back sidebar, not a reinvention, and all the more fun for it.
