Dean Lewis, the Sydney singer-songwriter born Dean Lewis Grant Loaney in 1987, deals in big, open-hearted pop ballads that wear their feelings right on the surface. "Waves" made his name in 2016, and "Be Alright" in 2018 went all the way to number one in Australia, eventually racking up 11-times platinum there and double platinum in the United States.
His first album, A Place We Knew, arrived in 2019, and it plays to his strengths: plainspoken heartbreak, a voice that cracks at just the right moments, and choruses built to be sung back by a room full of people. "7 Minutes" and "Stay Awake" came from it. The Hardest Love followed in 2022, the same year "How Do I Say Goodbye" took off worldwide on social media, and The Epilogue arrived in 2024.
In 2025 Lewis was accused of sexual misconduct; Universal Music, the company behind his records, cut ties with him.
