"Be Alright" is the June 2018 single that broke Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis, and it went on to lead off his debut album, A Place We Knew. Lewis built it as a patchwork, pulling pieces from several relationships, some his own and some his friends', and folding them into one story about a breakup and the hard business of moving on.
It sounds heartbroken, but Lewis has insisted it's really a song about hope, about trusting things will come right if you keep good people around you. Australia took it to number one and piled on the platinum certifications, and the US followed. Its video won the ARIA for Best Video in 2018, and in 2021 APRA named it the most performed Australian work overseas.
