A Place We Knew, the debut album from Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis, came out on 22 March 2019, and it's a big-hearted heartbreak record. Lewis said the songs came out of old relationships and the houses and hotel rooms where he lived through them, and the title is his shorthand for the sweet-and-sour ache of looking back on love.
Everything is built around his cracked, earnest voice, pitched somewhere between confession and singalong. "7 Minutes" and "Stay Awake" were the calling cards, and he played both on Jimmy Kimmel Live! days before the release. The album went straight to number one in Australia, and at the ARIA Music Awards of 2019 it earned three nominations, taking Album of the Year and Best Male Artist.
