Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, Band of Skulls' debut album, came out on 7 April 2009 in England, with America getting it at the end of July, and it's blues rock with mud on its boots: fuzzed-up riffs, heavy grooves and a swagger that never needs to shout. Ian Davenport, who had worked with Supergrass and Badly Drawn Boy, produced, recorded and mixed it, tracking at Courtyard Studios in Oxfordshire and mixing at the House of Blues studio in Los Angeles. Bassist and singer Emma Richardson's paintings supplied the look of the artwork.

The songs found second lives all over the place. "Light of the Morning", the opener, turned up in a TV ad for the 2011 Ford Mustang, "I Know What I Am" landed in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and on the Rock Band Network, and "Patterns" roared through Gran Turismo 5. The UK Indie Chart only caught up in February 2010.
