About Z-Rock
Z-Rock was a nationally syndicated hard rock and heavy metal radio network that ran from 1986 to 1996. Its Top 1001 Songs of All-Time countdown is archived on RockLists.
Z-Rock launched in 1986 as a format of the Satellite Music Network, delivering 24-hour hard rock and heavy metal to affiliate stations across the United States from studios in Dallas. It was the first national outlet devoted to metal and helped bring bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Pantera to radio audiences in markets that had no local rock station.
The Top 1001 Songs of All-Time countdown preserved here, contributed by a listener, ranks the network's core catalog from Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica on down. Z-Rock was discontinued in 1996 after ABC Radio absorbed the Satellite Music Network.
