About WBCN
WBCN signed on at 104.1 FM in Boston in 1958 as a classical station and switched to underground progressive rock in March 1968, later becoming known as "The Rock of Boston". In 1994 it replaced its classic rock library and veteran DJs with an alternative format, and from 1999 it leaned toward active-rock-flavored modern rock. CBS Radio ended WBCN on the FM dial on August 12, 2009, when the Mix hot AC format moved to 104.1.
