Sara Bareilles wrote "Armor" by herself as a response to the #MeToo movement, and it became the lead single from Amidst the Chaos, her sixth studio album, pushed out ahead of the record because of the Supreme Court confirmation hearing for Brett Kavanaugh. The album itself grew out of her reaction to the 2016 presidential election.
T-Bone Burnett produced it. Bareilles sings and plays piano, with Marc Ribot on guitar, Dennis Crouch on double bass, Jay Bellerose on drums, Keefus Ciancia and Patrick Warren on keyboards and Gabriel Johnson on trumpet. Mike Piersante recorded and mixed it.
