“Get You Down” by Sam Fender

"Get You Down" is Sam Fender turning the knife on himself. He recorded it back in 2019, and Polydor put it out in 2021 as the second taste of Seventeen Going Under, his second album. He wrote it alone, and it looks hard at how his own insecurity wrecked his relationships, the most recent one above all; he called it a slow burner that turns out to be a monster.

Thom Lewis produced it and Rich Costey mixed, and the arrangement goes big: Fender on piano, Dean Thompson on guitar, Tom Ungerer on bass, Drew Michael on drums, Joe Atkinson on synthesizer, Johnny "Blue Hat" Davis on saxophone and strings from Wired Strings. Hector Dockrill's video puts Fender at a racetrack, bickering with Monica Armario in the car before a crash leaves him hurt. It also made the FIFA 22 soundtrack.
