“Torn to Pieces” by Pop Evil

"Torn to Pieces" was the third single from Onyx, Pop Evil's 2013 album and their third in the studio, and it finds the band at their most exposed. Singer Leigh Kakaty wrote it with Dave Bassett about losing his father, and about the particular torment of someone slipping away before you ever get to say goodbye. Johnny K produced.

It's a slow, heartsick ballad on a plain, catchy melody that opens out into an emotional solo, and at least one critic heard an echo of their earlier ballad "Monster You Made". The band asked fans to send in photos showing what the song meant to them, and it became their third number one on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, holding the top spot for two weeks.
