“Life Is Better With You” by Michael Franti & Spearhead

"Life Is Better With You" comes from All People, the 2013 album Michael Franti & Spearhead released through Boo Boo Wax and Capitol, a record that kept pushing Franti toward pop after he decided a pop song could comfort and mean as much as a protest song. Franti wrote the words, shares the music credit with J Bowman, sings lead and produced it himself, with Gregg Wattenberg adding production.

Franti and Bowman both play guitar, Raleigh Neal and Lenny Skolnik are on keyboards, Carl Young plays bass and Gunnar Olsen drums, and there's a crowd of backing singers, Sara Agah Franti and Ade Franti Rye among them. Joe Zook mixed it. Most of the album was cut in Hunters Point, and Franti, who recorded around 35 songs, played the rough mixes during his morning yoga to make sure they lifted him.
