"Deuce" is Gene Simmons' contribution to Kiss's self-titled 1974 debut, and it's been kicking off their shows ever since. Simmons wrote it on bass, admittedly lifting the bass line of the Rolling Stones' "Bitch" and flipping it around, so the guitars end up shadowing him in different octaves while he takes the lead vocal.

It came together in a straight line: riff, then bridge, then chorus. Paul Stanley added the lightly phased opening riff, borrowed in spirit from the Raspberries' "Go All the Way", and never took a credit for it. Ace Frehley has his own reason to love it, since it was the very first tune he tackled as a member of the band. Kenny Kerner and Richie Wise produced, and Peter Criss slams it home.
