Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "All the Stars" arrived in January 2018 as the lead single from the Black Panther soundtrack, and it doubled as a press release: Lamar and Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, president of Top Dawg Entertainment, would be producing the whole album, and Marvel confirmed that director Ryan Coogler had hand-picked Lamar for the job. Tiffith shares the writing with the two stars and producers Sounwave and Al Shux, and the song rolls over the film's end credits.
Awards season came calling: it was up for Best Original Song at both the 76th Golden Globes and the 91st Academy Awards and pulled four nominations at the 61st Grammys, Record of the Year and Song of the Year among them. The African-American Film Critics Association named it Best Song, and its video won Best Visual Effects at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.
