Kelly Osbourne, the English television personality, went digging through Madonna's catalog for her 2002 album Shut Up and came up with "Papa Don't Preach", the True Blue song from 1986. Brian Elliot wrote it with Madonna, building it out of teenage chatter he'd overheard outside his recording studio.
The story is pop melodrama played dead straight: a teenage girl tells her father she's pregnant, begs him to hold off on the judgment and makes it plain she's keeping the baby. Osbourne's cover came out in late 2002 and turned into a success of its own, the same plea with a new voice doing the pleading.
