John Legend dedicated "All of Me" to his wife, Chrissy Teigen, and put it on Love in the Future, his fourth album, in 2013; that August it went out to urban radio as the record's third single. He wrote it with Toby Gad, and it's a ballad, with Legend at the piano and Dave Tozer adding keyboards.
It took its time and then took over. In May 2014 it knocked Pharrell Williams' "Happy" off the top of the Billboard Hot 100, handing Legend his first American number one, and it topped the charts in Canada, Australia, Sweden and beyond. It ended 2014 as the second best-selling song of the year in the US, at 4.67 million copies, and a Tiësto remix won the Grammy for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
