Jack Johnson wrote "Banana Pancakes" on his own, sings it and plays the guitar, and it's one of the songs on In Between Dreams, the American singer-songwriter's third album, which Brushfire Records released in 2005. The band around him stays small: Merlo Podlewski on bass and Adam Topol on drums and percussion, with Mario Caldato Jr. producing, and Caldato and Robert Carranza engineering and mixing.
The album was made at a studio called the Mango Tree, which is why a mango tree is pictured on the cover. Critics mostly shrugged, with a Metacritic average of 58, and some filed the record under playing it safe, but it sold handsomely anyway.
