“Under Your Scars” by Godsmack

"Under Your Scars" was the third single from When Legends Rise, Godsmack's seventh album, released in 2018, and it's Sully Erna's song alone, words and music. He traced it to time spent with Lady Gaga, a friend he admires, who left him thinking about the wounds everyone carries, physical or emotional, and how deep they can cut.

Erna singled it out as maybe the most important song on the record, since it's a real ballad, and it marked the first time Godsmack brought piano into their sound. For a band that lives on hard-rock muscle, that's a genuine swerve.
