"Woman" sits on Planet Her, Doja Cat's third album, released in 2021, and it rides an Afrobeats groove shot through with pop, R&B and reggae, with a lyric that celebrates divine femininity and carries a feminist streak. Linden Jay and Yeti Beats produced it, Aaron Horn and Aynzli Jones co-produced, and Jidenna and Jones sing backup. All of the producers and Jidenna share the writing credit with Doja Cat, Lydia Asrat and Łukasz Gottwald.
It was a slow burner. Europe caught on first, pushing it into the top 10 in Greece, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Lithuania and Portugal before it went to Italian radio as the album's fourth single that October, and American radio picked it up in December. Almost a year into its run it finally climbed to No. 7 on the Hot 100, on the Billboard chart dated May 7, 2022.
