"Symphonies" was the first single from British musician Dan Black's 2009 debut album, UN, on A&M, and it grew out of his earlier single "HYPNTZ". Black wrote and produced it himself, and it's a gleaming slab of alternative dance that sounds built for big rooms.
It got around. In the US it was iTunes' Single of the Week at the end of December 2009, a remix with Kid Cudi went out as an American bonus track, and the song turned up in a Virgin Media ad campaign in the UK, in the 2010 comedy Easy A and on the NBA 2K11 soundtrack.
