Daft Punk released "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" on 13 October 2001, the fourth single pulled off Discovery, their second album. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo built it on a springy keyboard riff sampled from "Cola Bottle Baby", a 1979 funk track by Edwin Birdsong, who shares the writing credit and later recalled the French pair telling him the record simply popped out while they were digging through the bins. The vocals run through a vocoder, all cool machine precision, and the whole thing struts along in F-sharp minor.

The live version from Alive 2007 later won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording in 2009, and in 2011 NME placed the song at 132 on its list of the best tracks of the previous 15 years.
