"Defeated" comes from Dark Before Dawn, the fifth studio album Breaking Benjamin released through Hollywood Records on June 23, 2015, their first after a hiatus that ran from early 2010 to late 2014. Founder and frontman Benjamin Burnley wrote it with guitarist Jasen Rauch, sings lead, plays electric guitar and produced it, recording it with John Bender, and Ben Grosse mixed.
It's the new lineup at work: Rauch and Keith Wallen on guitars, Aaron Bruch on bass and Shaun Foist on drums, with Wallen and Bruch singing backup on the first Breaking Benjamin album to carry any voice besides Burnley's. Most of the record was written before the new band had played a note together, and it still sounds like a unit that means business.
