"Hold Out Your Hand" comes from Brandi Carlile's By the Way, I Forgive You, released on February 16, 2018, and Carlile wrote it together with Phil and Tim Hanseroth. Phil plays guitar and Tim the bass, and producers Dave Cobb and Shooter Jennings roll up their sleeves too: Cobb on guitar, Jennings on piano, organ, synthesizer and keyboards.
What gives it its gathering-storm feel is the crowd around her. Chris Powell drives it on drums and percussion, John Mark Painter adds French horn, and Anderson East, Gena Johnson and both Hanseroths pile in on the vocals until Carlile's lead sounds like a revival tent at full roar. Johnson and Eddie Spear engineered it.
