"Dreams Tonite" was the second single from Antisocialites, Alvvays' second album, going up online on July 25, 2017, though the Canadian indie pop band had been playing it live since early 2016. Molly Rankin and Alec O'Hanley wrote it, and it sits at the heart of the album's imagined breakup story: its narrator wonders whether the old spark would still catch if the two of them met now instead of back then. The dream-pop shimmer only makes the question sting more.
The video, directed by Matt Johnson, drops the band digitally into archival footage of Montreal's 1967 International and Universal Exposition, a retro-futurist daydream. The song has since become one of their best loved, with more than 105 million Spotify streams by September 2024.
