"Protection" was the second single the Australian rapper Allday drew from Starry Night Over the Phone, his third studio album, and it arrived in 2019. It's a song about love that has slipped away, and Triple J's Al Newstead heard Allday mourning it inside a haze of woozy guitars and low-key beats, about as far from chest-thumping rap as it gets.
Two years on, in 2021, the single was certified gold in Australia.
