Starry Night Over the Phone by Allday

Starry Night Over the Phone, the third album from Adelaide rapper Allday, arrived on 12 July 2019, and its title nods to Vincent van Gogh's 1888 painting Starry Night Over the Rhône, with the cover art borrowing the painting's play of light. It's a dreamy, late-night record that floats between rapping and singing, the work of an artist who has named Silverchair, Frank Ocean and TLC among his influences and who by then had swapped Melbourne for Los Angeles.

"Wonder Drug", "Protection", "Lungs" and "Restless", the last one with the Veronicas, went out as singles. It was nominated for Best Independent Hip Hop Album or EP at the AIR Awards in 2020, losing out to Sampa the Great's The Return. Drinking with My Smoking Friends came next.
