"I Want U" was the lead single from Calm Down, the debut EP from Australian DJ and producer Alison Wonderland, released on EMI in 2014 and credited to writers Alexandra Sholler and Andrew Swanson. It's trap-flavored dance music built for big rooms, and most reviewers went for it: Music Feed tipped it as a dance-floor anthem for the season, The Music praised its breakdown, and Beat called it a tidy banger that didn't break new ground. The Guardian's Everett True liked the pounding bass but found the vocals lacking.
It had legs, peaking at 38 in Australia, going gold in 2016 and platinum in 2018, and showing up in NBA 2K17, Forza Horizon 3 and Audica, and later on Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House.
