This Modern Glitch, the Wombats' second major-label album, landed in the UK on 25 April 2011, and it finds the Liverpool trio giving their indie jangle a high-gloss, synth-streaked polish. Matthew Murphy, Tord Øverland Knudsen and Dan Haggis co-produced it with a heavyweight roster: Rich Costey, Eric Valentine, Butch Walker and Jacknife Lee.
The hooks come wrapped in glittering, neon-lit choruses built for festival fields. The singles came thick and fast, 3 before the release, "Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)", "Jump into the Fog" and "Anti-D", then "Techno Fan", "Our Perfect Disease" and "1996" afterwards. Critics were kind, it had sold 126,772 copies in the UK by April 2015, and it got a 10th anniversary reissue stuffed with B-sides, remixes and acoustic takes.
