Eclipse by Twin Shadow

Eclipse is the third Twin Shadow album, released in 2015 on Warner as the follow-up to Confess, and George Lewis Jr. produced it himself, which tells you how much of this sound lives in his head. The Dominican-born, Florida-raised singer had launched the project in Brooklyn in 2006, and here he goes widescreen: big, glossy synth-pop with drums like thunderclaps and choruses aimed at the cheap seats, all sung with a crooner's flair for melodrama.

Reviews mostly came out positive, though Pitchfork's was scathing, the lowest score the site had given him. The songs found second lives elsewhere: "To the Top" turned up in the film Paper Towns and in the fourth episode of Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands, and "Old Love / New Love" was made for Grand Theft Auto V.
