Moog Droog, Super Furry Animals' second EP, came out on the Welsh label Ankst in October 1995, a short, fizzing blast from the Cardiff band ahead of Fuzzy Logic. Gorwel Owen produced, and the lineup was already the one that would see them through: Gruff Rhys singing and playing guitar, Huw Bunford on lead guitar, Guto Pryce on bass, Cian Ciaran on keyboards and synths and Dafydd Ieuan on drums. The actor Rhys Ifans had already stepped away from the mic.
The sound is neo-psychedelia with its tongue out, warped keyboards and bubbling fuzz wrapped around pop hooks, and "God Show Me Magic" is the pick of it. The EP went back into the shops in May 1997, and the two pressings wear different sleeves: the original shows a faceless figure sweeping dust under a rug, the export edition a red-orange bear drawn on blue. Cool Cymru was only just getting started.
