What's Inside: Songs from Waitress, Sara Bareilles' fifth studio album, came out on Epic on November 6, 2015, and it's a songwriter's sketchbook for her first Broadway job. Bareilles wrote the music and lyrics for the musical Waitress, and here she sings a batch of its songs herself, along with a few that never made it into the show, with Neal Avron producing.
Freed from the stage, the material sounds like a Sara Bareilles record first and a cast album second: pop rock full of warmth, wit and a little ache around the edges. The lead single, "She Used to Be Mine", arrived digitally on September 25, 2015, a ballad that lets her voice climb from confession to full-throated release.
