In the Lonely Hour by Sam Smith
In the Lonely Hour is an album by Sam Smith, released in 2014. 2 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 19 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “Stay with Me”, on 12 lists with a best position of #3.
In the Lonely Hour, Sam Smith's debut album, came out in Britain on 26 May 2014 through Capitol UK and Method Records, and in America that June on Capitol. Smith arrived already known for their voice, having sung on Disclosure's "Latch" and Naughty Boy's "La La La", and this record puts that voice front and centre in aching, slow-burning soul-pop.
"Money on My Mind" and "Stay with Me" both went to number one in the UK, the second one travelling the world on its hushed, hymn-like chorus, and "I'm Not the Only One" kept the heartbreak coming. Critics were lukewarm, praising the singing more than the songs, but the album sold massively and won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. A Drowning Shadows Edition followed in November 2015 with 12 more tracks.
