Out of the Blue, the ninth studio album from Mike + The Mechanics, is part victory lap and part fresh start. Mike Rutherford, the Genesis guitarist who launched the band as a side project back in 1985, produced a set that reworks a clutch of their biggest hits and slips in 3 new songs: "One Way", "What Would You Do" and the title track. BMG put it out.
This is the revived lineup Rutherford assembled in 2010, with Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar trading lead vocals over Anthony Drennan's guitars and Gary Wallis's drums, and the new voices give the old songs a warmer, soulful lift. "All I Need Is a Miracle" still bounces with that big-hearted '80s pop-rock sheen, just buffed up for the present. The album went in at number 7 on the UK albums chart, the band's fifth top 10 record there.
