Whispering Jack by John Farnham
Whispering Jack is an album by John Farnham, released in 2006. 1 song from it has charted on rock radio countdowns, with 2 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “You're the Voice”, on 2 lists with a best position of #6.
Whispering Jack, John Farnham's twelfth studio album, first came out on 29 September 1986, and on 21 November 2006 it returned in a 20th-anniversary edition with an extended studio take of "Pressure Down" and a DVD of the 1987 Whispering Jack Live in Concert broadcast. It's the record that saved his career. After he'd joined and then left Little River Band, things had stalled, and his manager Glenn Wheatley mortgaged his own house to pay for the sessions. Ross Fraser produced.
The gamble paid off big. "You're the Voice", a chest-out, fist-in-the-air anthem, went to No. 1 once radio gave up resisting the public's demand for it, and the album sat at the top of the Australian chart for 25 weeks, won the 1987 ARIA Award for Album of the Year and became the biggest-selling album ever by an Australian artist at home. It was also the first Australian-made album issued on compact disc in the country.
