The Past Is Still Alive, the eighth studio album from Hurray for the Riff Raff, arrived on Nonesuch on February 23, 2024, and it's Alynda Mariposa Segarra's show as it has been since the Bronx-born songwriter started the project in New Orleans back in 2007. The project started out working through different strands of folk, and Brad Cook's production here gives these songs room to breathe and ache.
The guest list is a tidy crew of kindred spirits: Conor Oberst, Meg Duffy, Anjimile and S.G. Goodman all turn up. "Hawkmoon" is the one that carried the record to alternative radio.
