Black Smoke Rising by Greta Van Fleet
Black Smoke Rising is an EP by Greta Van Fleet, released in 2017. 2 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 28 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “Highway Tune”, on 21 lists with a best position of #3.
Black Smoke Rising, Greta Van Fleet's debut EP, went out digitally on April 21, 2017, with physical copies following that August, and it's four songs of full-throated, old-school hard rock from a band of brothers out of Frankenmuth, Michigan. Josh Kiszka wails like he's trying to crack the studio glass, his twin Jake peels off fat, bluesy riffs, Sam Kiszka holds down bass and keys, and Danny Wagner pounds the drums.
"Highway Tune" was the calling card, a strutting, riff-first blast that topped the Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts for four straight weeks that September, and "Safari Song" got to number two. By November the EP had been folded, with four new songs, into From the Fires, which went on to win the Grammy for Best Rock Album.
