Amplified Heart by Everything But The Girl

Amplified Heart, Everything but the Girl's eighth studio album, came out on Blanco y Negro on 13 June 1994 in the UK and on Atlantic in North America that July. Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt recorded and mixed it in London across the winter of 1993 and 1994, and most of it is quiet, acoustic and achingly sad: Thorn's deep, unhurried voice over Watt's guitars, folk-tinged and lovely.

Then Todd Terry got hold of "Missing". His club remix turned a wistful acoustic song into a dancefloor smash that spent more than a year creeping across radio before it climbed all the way to number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and it dragged the whole album into the mainstream: upwards of 232,000 copies in the US, and more than 1,000,000 worldwide. The duo followed the remix into electronic music afterwards. "Troubled Mind" is a quieter reminder of the album's original folky heart.
