Stories by Avicii

Stories, the second studio album from Swedish producer Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii, came out on 2 October 2015, and it's the sound of a dance-floor headliner trying to make a songwriter's record. He didn't go it alone: Salem Al Fakir, Vincent Pontare, Alex Ebert, Carl Falk, Martin Garrix and Ash Pournouri were among the co-producers on various tracks.

The house beats are still there, glossy and progressive, but the folk, soul and country threads he'd been weaving into his sound keep pulling focus, so "Waiting for Love", "Broken Arrows" and "For a Better Day" land as big-hearted pop songs first and club tools second. Critics landed somewhere between lukewarm and warm, but listeners didn't hesitate: it topped the charts in Sweden and Norway and finished fourth among the year's most-streamed albums on Spotify. It turned out to be the last album he released in his lifetime; he died in 2018.
