Worlds Collide, Apocalyptica's sixth studio album, came out in 2007, and by then the Finnish cellists who'd started out as a Helsinki Metallica tribute act had built something much bigger and louder. Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen and Perttu Kivilaakso saw away on cellos, Mikko Sirén batters the drum kit, and Howard Benson's production lacquers the whole thing in thick, radio-ready gloss.
It's a strange and oddly thrilling sound: no guitars or bass, just bowed strings chugging like crunching riffs and sobbing like a lead solo. "I Don't Care" is the big crossover play, a brooding power ballad built for rock radio. Counting singles, videos and box sets, it was the band's 28th release overall.
