"Pink Skies" was the first taste of The Great American Bar Scene, Zach Bryan's fifth album, landing as its lead single on May 24, 2024, the same day he announced it on Twitter. Bryan wrote it by himself and produced it too. The song pictures a family gathering to bury one of their own, but Bryan has said it wasn't drawn from any particular moment in his life so much as his curiosity about how families work.
Whiskey Riff's Casey Young heard in it the grief of missing someone you love, and plenty of listeners online said it put into words what they couldn't. It opened at number six on Billboard's Hot 100, and Bryan gave it its first live airing on June 1, 2024, at the Oakland Coliseum.
