“Cloudy Day” by Tones and I

"Cloudy Day" came out on 10 June 2021 as the third single from Welcome to the Madhouse, the debut album by Australian singer Tones and I, through Bad Batch Records, with Sony Music distributing in Australia and New Zealand and Elektra everywhere else. It was born in a hard stretch. After her friend Ben Tournier, known as T, died in January 2021, she was struggling to finish the album, and Denis Handlin, then running Sony Music Australia, called her into his office and passed on his late mother's saying about looking for the sun on an overcast day. She knew it was a lyric, and she wrote the song on her next trip to the studio.

She wrote it alone and co-produced it with Dann Hume, who mixed it. It won Song of the Year at the 2022 ARIA Music Awards.
