"Long May You Run" is the title track of the album credited to the Stills-Young Band, the short-lived 1976 partnership of Stephen Stills and Neil Young, and it's pure Young. The two wrote separately for the record, and this one is his alone, inspired by nothing grander than a car: Mort, his 1948 Buick Roadmaster hearse. It rolls along with an easy, affectionate lope, a road song with a soft spot for the vehicle.

Young, Stills and Don Gehman produced it, with Tom Dowd as associate producer and Gehman at the recording desk. Released as a single, it failed to chart, but Young thought enough of it to put it on his Decade compilation that same year, and in 2010 he sang it at the closing ceremonies of the Vancouver Winter Olympics to an ovation from the home crowd.
