Dexter Holland wrote "Let the Bad Times Roll" back in 2016, and the Offspring finally cut it in 2020 for the album that took its name, their tenth, with Bob Rock producing; it went out as the record's second single on February 23, 2021. Holland said the words take stock of the political mess of the moment, a time when, as he saw it, the people in charge had quit even pretending to try, and he found that more frightening than any punk sneer.
It became the band's third song to top Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, after "Gone Away" in 1997 and "Coming for You" in 2015, and it cracked the top 10 on Alternative Airplay. The album brings it back in altered form on its closing track, "Lullaby".
